2025 Championship Weekend Recap

First off, Merry Christmas to everyone and their families. I hope you all have a wonderful time with your loved ones. Eat and drink in abundance and enjoy the backups playing in tomorrow's games.

As for the last recap of the year? As always, another great weekend of football and fantasy football. With that said, there had to be two winners and two losers. While Commish made it out unscathed, the story here is Ryan's team putting up the lowest score ever in a Championship Weekend Game. He was given a gift early, when Josh Allen - unsurprisingly - shit the bed whenever someone needed him most. Unfortunately, his team did not take advantage of Josh's shortcomings as Bo Nix came back to earth, and his key players in McBride, Swift, and Jacobs put up lackluster performances. I wouldn't call it a respectable performance by Ryan, but an absolutely respectable season as he turned around a 1-9 season to now playing for 3rd place.

When it came to Cheeno vs Worzie, this is what you'd expect in a Championship Weekend matchup. High-scoring, long touchdowns, and star players showing up when it mattered most. Cheeno has been sitting on three QBs for a few weeks now: Dak, Herbert, and Burrow. All three had solid stats, but selecting the right one in Burrow for nearly 40pts is impressive. Going into MNF, Cheeno has a 27-point lead over Worzie, with only Purdy left to play. I truly believed Cheeno had a really good chance of winning. Unfortunately, by halftime, it was over. Purdy had already thrown for 3 touchdowns, almost 200 yards while completing nearly 80% of his passes. It was a MNF massacre. Purdy finished with over 40 points, giving Worzie a trip back to the fantasy Super Bowl.

Ryan and Cheeno. Best of luck in the 3rd-place game. You know the rules here: we don't cover losers in this blog, but one of you will walk away with $150. So congrats, I guess.

2025 Fantasy Super Bowl Preview

And then there were two.

Commish Vs Worzie. Michael vs Michael. America vs New Zealand. Average Golfer vs Great Golfer. I'll let you guys decide who is who on the last one. The point is that we have an all-time fantasy Super Bowl matchup. Commish, a first-time visitor to the Super Bowl, looks to clinch his hands around that elusive cup that sits above his desk all year. Worzie, the 2021 Champion, looks to become the third two-time champion in league history. It's only fitting that it's two South teams battling for the title. The South had been dominant all year and, truthfully, throughout the current decade. No matter the outcome, the South will have won 4 of the last 5 championships.

Previous Champions:

2017: Jared

2018: Jere

2019: Jere

2020: Nick

2021: Worzie

2022: Justin

2023: Nathan

2024: Nathan

2025: TBD

Let's get right into the finals matchup preview.

FINALS MATCHUPS

Commish vs Worzie

The two best regular-season records go head-to-head for the final match of 2025. These two teams faced each other twice in the regular season, and split the series, although Commish had already locked up the 1-seed, so he was resting his starters when they match up late in the season. Technically 1-0 in the series.

Positional Breakdown

QB: Matthew Stafford/Josh Allen vs Brock Purdy

Advantage Commish. Allen and Stafford are ranked 1 & 2 in overall scoring for the 2025 year. Either option should create a safe floor with upside to break into the high 30s. Stafford is on the road in Atlanta, and Allen is home versus Philly. Worzie looks to run it back with Purdy, who has looked elite over since his week 14 bye week, scoring 34 and 40 points. Purdy stays at home to play Chicago in what could be a deciding factor for the NFC 1-seed.

RB: CMC/JayTay vs Jeanty/Cook

Advantage Commish. While CMC and JayTay have taken a small step back from their early-season heroics. They are ranked 1 & 3 for RBs in the league, with number 2 being Gibbs. They have been the workhorse for Commish's team all year long, and realistically, this team thrives or dies based on their results. For Worzie, he is pleased to see Jeanty have a breakout game last week, although he has been on Worzie's bench for the majority of the season as an unreliable asset. James Cook, on the other hand, continues his dominance on the ground, breaking the 1500-yard mark last week.

WR: Pickens/Evans vs St. Brown/McMillian

Slight advantage, Worzie. St. Brown can break open a game at any point. The concern for Worzie is that he is currently questionable to play. Knowing St. Brown, though, he will be there fighting to play on a short week with Detroit on the brink of missing the playoffs. Tet McMillian is just a baller. The leader for OROY continues to make big plays for the Panthers and will break the 1,000-yard mark in his first NFL season. For Commish, Pickens has been ballin' all year long and is on pace to break the 1,500-yard mark, his best season as an NFL player by far. The concern is that he can disappear in meaningless games, and with the Cowboys out of the playoff picture, his focus may be elsewhere. Mike Evans, due to injury, will end his season without 1,000 yards for the first time in his career. But since his return, he immediately became the go-to guy for Baker, averaging 10.5 targets per game.

TE: TBD vs Schultz

Split advantage. The TE position has been a mess this year -unless you had Trey McBride. The reason there is TBD for Commish is that he is currently sitting on three rostered TEs with no idea who to play. Don't be surprised to see Taysom Hill enter into a starting role this week. The goal for both teams, find a player who can give you a safe floor. This position won't be the deciding factor in which team wins the cup.

Flex Players: Warren/Smith vs Hampton/Williams

Advantage Worzie. The advantage here is purely due to touches. Ultimately, Hampton and Warren will see more action in their games. While Warren and Smith have proven to be effective, their week-to-week performance is not as consistent, with Warren losing touches to Gainwell, and Philadelphia's passing offense being nonexistent in some games.

FINAL PREDICTIONS

Both teams are worthy of being in the Super Bowl, and I expect a close matchup to finish up our ninth season together.

Score prediction: Commish 171.58 | Worzie 102.24

Good luck to everyone this week, except.. Wait. Good luck to absolutely no one. Commish is here to get his crown and sip from his new chalice. The moment the league has dreaded since day one. It's time the king takes his throne. For the last time in 2025, Bolt up.
